Very informative. The museum gave the reasons why the Civil War occurred. It allowed your reasoning how it could have prevented. What a horrible tragedy. The sadness of it 153 years later what have the US learned. History has not corrected the issues. We need to soul search and realize we are in it for the long haul. We are all Americans.

We bought passes for this museum and the Museum of the Confederacy. This location presents the chronology of the whole war, and even before and after. A LOT to read. Not many artifacts, but you can see them in the Museum of the Confederacy. We spend 1 and a 1/2hour. The parking is free with the entrance fee.

This is a decent museum to check out in the Richmond area. Situated in a great spot downtown, no trouble to get to or find parking. Plenty of free things to see and learn about, which kept me busy while I was there. The shop had some interesting items, including several books which looked to be a great read. Watched a couple of documentaries in a fairly comfortable theatre and perused many historical items on display, with plenty of information on each. Staff was friendly, engaging, and knowledgeable. Spent several hours here and did not see everything available.

This museum has the most thoughtful approach to the civil war, its cause, and its effect on different people and parts of the country that I have ever seen. We'll laid out and attractive. It is a great compliment to the National Park Service museum next door about the effect of the war on Richmond. It should be even better when the restoration construction at the Tredegar Iron Works is completed.
