Ralph Stanley Museum And Traditional Mountain Music Center

About Us :

In October of 2004, a unique museum experience became available to music lovers: The Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center.

Combining the career of Dr. Ralph Stanley with the history of traditional mountain music, this interactive musical journey allows you to see and hear this particular style of American music in its original setting - the mountains of southwest Virginia.

Even if you've already been touched by his music, you haven't fully experienced it until you've journeyed into the heart of Appalachia.

The Ralph Stanley Museum and Traditional Mountain Music Center is located in a century-old four-story home currently under design renovation in Clintwood, Virginia.

The vision for the museum and music center is to preserve and promote mountain and Bluegrass music with workshops, seminars, and conventions.

Special interactive features and updates will be incorporated into this web site during the months leading up to the opening of the museum. So visit here often!

Wow ! A MUST SEE for bluegrass and mountain music lovers. What a fabulous museum. Very tastefully done. A big beautiful old 2 story house packed full of Ralph Stanley pictures, videos, banjos, guitars, fiddles, and a lot of recordings of very old, and some not so old Stanley music. Coming here will give much more than just Ralph’s story; it will give you a broad history lesson on how mountain music started. The museum furnishes headphones, and you get to walk around at your leisure and plug into different jacks and hear Dr Ralph tell wonderful stories, sing songs, and share his heart. I stayed about two hours, and experienced it all. Go there !

Nice experience. The museum is mostly recordings you listen to on a headset that you plug into a socket at each display. For the low $5 fee, it was well worth it.
