Gardens of Note

Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 10:00am to 3:00pm
Reston, Virginia
$20-$25

Join other local garden enthusiasts and your garden-curious neighbors as we go beyond what can be seen from the curb into the heart of a lovingly curated garden.  The 2024 Gardens of Note tour will feature six different private Reston residential gardens enlivened by pop-up musical performances by members and friends of the Reston Chorale.  To show off more of Reston’s spring blooms, the gardens will be open for touring on Saturday, May 11, from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm, about four weeks earlier than in previous years.

Relax in a peaceful “Old Virginia” backyard garden designed and maintained by the owners for over 40 years, with mature rhododendrons and azaleas surrounding waves of fern, interspersed with fruit trees and roses.  Enjoy the wildlife-friendly features: food, water, cover, places to raise young, and sustainable practices that allow the garden to qualify as a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat.

Wander along a path through a recently renovated garden with new areas of sun resulting from the loss of several oak trees.  You will find yourself in a lush landscape of deer-resistant plants that add texture and visual appeal over the seasons.

Admire the benefits of the work of a young couple who have expanded the pleasant garden space around their home by adding hardscaped garden areas to the front and side of the house and planting a mix of perennials and shrubs in each area, often rescuing and moving plants to give them new life.

Stroll through two neighboring townhouse gardens, each with its own style and unique beauty. Pay close attention and you will appreciate the different ways of creatively managing drainage issues, slope erosion, and changing sun and shade patterns.

Explore the stunning front and back gardens of the featured lakeside home.  Its ten-year-old gardens have matured into a Restonian version of an informal English garden, with a pleasing mix of foliage and flowers.

Gardens of Note is presented by The Reston Chorale in partnership with the Reston Garden Club and is made possible by the generous involvement of Hidden Lane Residential Landscapes and other participating businesses and individuals.  Proceeds from the tour benefit The Reston Chorale and Reston Garden Club.  Ticket prices are $20 in advance and $25 on the day of the event. Tickets may be purchased online through May 11 or in the gardens on the day of the tour.
